Our Team

Ever wonder who is behind the scenes of NLPA's 21 years of success? Below is an introduction to the staff of NLPA. These are the dedicated members of our team who seek perfection in the pleadings and research we prepare as well as the administration and communication to our clients and counsel of record. After all, seeking justice is a TEAM EFFORT!

Meet our Staff

In 2000, NLPA was acquired by the firm of Ratliff, & Robinson, P.A. The principals of that firm are Robert Ratliff & Matthew Robinson.

Robert A. Ratliff, Esq.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Robert Ratliff is a dedicated Constitutionalist. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law, after receiving his undergraduate degree in public administration from the University of Pittsburgh, Mr. Ratliff has spent his professional career fighting for the rights of those accused of wrongdoing by the Government. Since being admitted to the Bar, Mr. Ratliff has focused his practice exclusively on protecting constitutional rights, on challenging appellate courts and supreme courts to safeguard those rights, and on seeking justice for those citizens charged with criminal conduct.

An avid boater and naturalist, Mr. Ratliff is also a licensed agent to the National Football League, the National Basketball League, and Major League Baseball, using his skills as an advocate in the pursuit of athletes of excellence.

In addition to being a senior partner of Ratliff & Robinson, Mr. Ratliff is currently a named partner in the firm Shields, Ratliff, Green and Kern, of Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Ratliff maintains a national practice in all aspects of federal criminal law.

Matthew M. Robinson, Esq.
Mr. Robinson, a graduate of Northern Kentucky University and Salmon P. Chase College of Law, is a dedicated and passionate defender of the Constitution and of the rights of criminal defendants. Mr. Robinson limits his practice to state and federal criminal defense, including appeals and post conviction litigation. He is admitted to the Bar of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is licensed to practice law in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky. He is also admitted in the Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals throughout the United States.

Thomas Gaugh,
Senior Research Attorney
I joined the NLPA team in March, 2003. I believe in NLPA because this company helps protect the American way of life. According to the framers of the Constitution, all individuals were to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, and were presumed to have certain rights, regardless of the crime that they have been accused of committing. Through NLPA, the rights of criminal defendants are protected and preserved, thus guaranteeing the underlying foundations of the Constitution and the American judicial system.

Margaret Robinson
Director of Family Relations
Margaret is the wife of NLPA’s founder, H. Wesley Robinson. She has been involved in the fight to help protect inmates’ rights for more than twenty years. Although not an attorney, she likes to work with the wives, mothers and other family members who are experiencing the trauma of having a loved one incarcerated.

Stephanie Shortt
Office Manager & Senior Case Manager
I have been with NLPA since May of 2002. I enjoy working for NLPA because it makes me feel more defined as a person. I believe that everyone is innocent until proven guilty but, that sometimes the "proven" part can be questionable. When clients contact us who have been wrongly convicted or enhanced in their case, I feel it gives us a sense of obligation not only to those clients but, to the system in general to take a stand for those who are unable to do so themselves. I enjoy working for a company with a winning track record and being a part of that continued success as each day passes.

Pam Grimm

Susan Troutt
Senior Case Manager
I began with NLPA in 1998 on a part-time basis. I then became a full-time case manager with NLPA in 2001. My previous work experience includes paralegal duties with well-known firms dating back to 1992. I attended Miami University with the goal of majoring in paralegal studies. I have also received a certificate of completion for the Secretarial Administrative Services Program from Scarlet Oaks Career Development Campus in 1994.
